Grade 10 Up-An abridgment of Cussler's adult title of the same name (S & S, 1996). Diabolical diamond mogul Arthur Dorsett, descendent of a convicted highwayman, plots to drop the bottom on the diamond market. Enter the dashing superman named Dirk Pitt and the rest of the gang at the U.S. National Underwater and Marine Agency (NUMA) to save the day. A mysterious plague kills thousands of animals and humans and threatens to kill millions more. Throw in a kidnapping and a few decidedly unseaworthy boats and you've got the plot. Nothing in the tone or style of the book has changed from the original. The story takes readers from one adventure to another without pause for meaningful discussion of any character. Descriptions of lead characters are limited to two or three sentences about physical appearance. The plot and style are still technical and sophisticated enough to turn away most young adult readers-none of the language is truly "Adapted for Young Fans." Those who would pick up this title are better off taking the original book from the adult-fiction section.

Dirk Pitt's ingenuity rises to new heights

Getting started in this Dirk Pitt novel, I recognized all the familiar elements - the damsel in distress, the Pittian rescue, the daring reconnaissance the greedy, secretive and all-powerful billionaire with his wicked worldwide plot, etcetera. After the historical intro sequence, with its harrowing tale of the shipwreck of an Australia-bound prison ship, I found it ho-hum - until about halfway through the book. It really takes off when Dirk, Al and damsel Maeve Fletcher are set adrift in a small boat in the South Seas. Cussler gives this part of the story the good, long ride it deserves, and Dirk's ingenuity rises to new heights as the trio survive to make not one but two unlikely landfalls. Maeve Fletcher rises above heroines of other novels to become an alltime and unforgettable love of Pitt's life along with Summer Moran. The monster threat of this book - amplified sound waves travelling thousands of miles through water that do terrible damage if several converge - is a little vague and somewhat implausible, and the climactic sequence, which I won't give away, contains at least one apparent inconsistency.

Still, a fine book. And the zoologist Maeve Fletcher's discourse on the factual basis behind the sightings of sea monsters is so well done that it has me wondering how much of this might actually be true (as opposed to how much of a yarn old seadog Cussler is spinning here.)

About the Author
Ophelia Cheung has a BA in English Literature from the University of Hong Kong and a Masters of Library Science (MLS) from the University of Western Ontario in Canada (1978). She gained experience in both academic and special libraries in Hong Kong before joining Ryerson University Library in Toronto, Canada in 1985. Since then, Ophelia has assumed responsibilities in reference, collection development and library instruction. Ophelia was the Head of Information Services, Audio Visual and Interlibrary Loan Manager, and is currently supervising E-Reserve and Audio Visual services. She has implemented organizational changes and new initiatives in these areas. She has contributed to peer-reviewed library science journals and presented at international library and information technology and e-learning conferences.

Dana Thomas has been an academic librarian since January 2005. Within collections services, her responsibilities have included managing Ryerson University Library’s serials and electronic resources collections, including acquisition and technical support. She has also been responsible for subject liaison and collection development work, provision of reference services, and library instruction. Located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Ryerson University is part of the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL) consortium which supports the provincial Scholars Portal project. Dana is primarily responsible for SFX and RefWorks at Ryerson, two of the services implemented across the consortium. In this role, she has been invited to present at Scholars Portal events and is a member of a Public Services Advisory Group which facilitates user-driven evaluation of Scholars Portal services. Her research interests focus on usability of academic library resources, and how changes in technology and library resources relate to research behaviour. Currently, Dana is on secondment at Scholars Portal as Evaluation and Assessment Librarian.

Susan Patrick has a BA (Major in English) from McGill University in Montreal, Canada (1972), a Graduate Diploma in Library Science from Queensland Institute of Technology in Brisbane, Australia (1976), and a BA (Honours FineArts/Film) from York University in Toronto, Canada (1985). She has worked as an academic librarian, beginning at the University of Queensland Library in Brisbane (1976-1980), and then at Ryerson University Library in Toronto (1980-83, 1989-present), where her experience has been mainly in the areas of reference, collection development, and library instruction. She was Audio Visual Librarian from 2003 - 2006, and is currently Special Collections Librarian. She has contributed to peer-reviewed library science journals and presented at international library and information technology and e-learning conferences.

A good background

I am very interested in this subject. The book provides good background to the issues with ereserves and provides a thorough set of key issues that most institutions grapple with. It validates some of the best practice initiatives I have had the pleasure of working on in my day-today work and I think it is a valuable and useful book.

It makes you happy as a newlywed again.

Adams's Christian Living in the Home is still the best book on its subject after all these years. I first read it before I got married, and my wife (who is from here in Taiwan) refers to its Chinese edition--the best book on its subject in her language--often. We both notice that we feel like the other spouse is more loving right after that spouse has reread this book recently. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED especially for its teaching about marriage, it is also very practical for dealing with children (we have three sons now). This book is my favorite extra thing to give as a wedding present at every wedding to which I'm invited.

Love is a verb

It is hard not to rave about a book that revolutionized a large part of your life! This is what Christian Living in the Home did for my marriage. Mr. Adam's does an excellent job fleshing out what God's word says to husbands and wives concerning their responsibilities in marriage. This book will be very helpful for all those wanting to bring a little bit of "heaven on earth" into their marriages, here and now. How should a husband love his wife? How should a wife respond to her husband's love? How should parents interact with their children? How important is forgiveness to a healthy and rewarding relationship? All of these important questions are more than answered in this fine book. For those people who find it difficult to take good teachings and apply it personally Mr.Adam's gives workshop type exercises at the end of each chapter, a very practical, helpful tool.This book causes a person to sit down and evaluate what is truly important in life. My wife and I read through the book together and it literally transformed our marriage.

This is a great book on marriage and the family. Taking it from a Biblical perspective, Jay Adams does a great job of going through the husband's role, the wife's role and how they interrelate. If you want to find the Biblical formula for a successful marriage, get this book. If you think that the world has a better way and that true, Biblical roles are "archaic", don't buy this book, get a psychology book and get ready for divorce. I use this book for pre-marriage counselling. It works very well by going over one chapter each session.

Western Romance At It's Best

Vanessa Vale has brought us another exciting tale of Western Thrill,Excitement and Romance.
This tale will have you Tantalised and wanting more and more.

Piper Sinclair has not had an easy life what with having no mother to care for her and just a father and two brothers that couldn't care less about her, she longs for a better life.

But when Piper finds herself hauled away and in jail by this handsome bounty hunter in connection with some crimes that her family committed, she thinks that the sheriff's word that she wouldn't be involved should be enough to make this stubborn bounty hunter let her go.

But Wiley Easton isn't going to buy it at all. He's heard time and time again that a woman is involved in this crime spree that has left many people including his own father dead. If the sheriff won't do anything about it then he will just have to wait till the judge arrives. He decides he will just have to keep her captive and butt naked so she can't escape him.

But everything changes when the judge shows up the next morning, he side's with the sheriff and explains to Wiley that Piper wouldn't be involved, and not only that but he is furious to find that Wiley has kept an innocent young lady naked in his hotel room. This Book is beyond amazing I loved it from the very first page I just new it was going to be a sexy page turner.

Vanessa Vale sure knows how to draw you in to her wonderful worlds she is able to create it gives us the readers an awesome opportunity to live vicariously through her characters.

Wiley is for sure a strong stubborn character he has a good heart deep down and is only doing this because they had killed his father he was seeking the justice he deserved. I loved his stubbornness how he thinks that having a wife wont change anything …. but it sure does and I think it opened his eyes to the real world as well as opening his heart to love.

Piper was my favourite for sore she has a strong nature and a passionate way about her you can tell how loyal she is and how she truly wants a new life with love in it and someone who really cares for her. I adored how she is determined to help Wiley with his case and how she is willing to risk her own life to bring justice for Wiley father and all others that lost relatives or a loved one from this awful woman.

My favourite part of the story is how Wiley awakened Pipers passion and how electric they both are together.

Sweet Justice......Sweet HOTness!

I hate to say this.....but I think this is my favorite Vanessa Vale book to date. Nothing I love better than is a man who thinks he is so smart and then that backfires on him. Mr. Easton, the hot bounty hunter thought he was so smart in finding a way to keep Piper from bolting as his prisoner by keeping her clothes and leaving her in a sheet. All is find and good until the judge shows up and is not pleased that
"Prisoner or not, a woman ca not be treated........so you have given me not choice here execpt to spare Miss Sinclair's virtue......therefore you will marry her."
I love a good shotgun wedding as well....and when the bride is married in a hotel room wearing just a bed sheet things are just getting interesting.
Great read! I would of like to info to what happened to her ranch and if now her new husband was now to get the deed? I loved the thought that they would now start on a new life on his ranch.....but would of liked to have had a few loose ends tied up a bit.

THE BOUNTY HUNTER AND THE VIRGIN

This story has a wonderful plot with interesting twists as the mystery unfolds and criminals are captured and tried. It has a great cast of characters, unique scenes for getting the job done and entertaining dialog. Sometimes what seems like an unfair situation can, in fact, be a blessing in disguise. What appears as a compromising situation of actual innocence, leads to a forced marriage but the circuit judge. This is another wonderfully told western erotica tale from Ms. Vale. Wiley Easton is a bounty hunter, looking for those responsible for the death of several people, including his father. He is after the Sinclair family. Piper Sinclair knows her father and brother are no good, she is sick of their abuse and wishes she could leave, but with their reputation, no one would hire her, she is trapped. When Wiley and his fellow bounty hunters take Piper and her family prisoner, more is captured than fugitives. The sex scenes are steamy hot, the spanking scene is mild.
