In his acclaimed, award-winning novels Alex and Irène, Pierre Lemaitre created an unforgettable character in Police Commandant Camille Verhoeven. Now, in Camille, the final volume in Lemaitre's internationally bestselling trilogy of "meta-meta detective" novels (The New York Times), Verhoeven faces his most harrowing case yet, and the ultimate reckoning for the diminutive yet tenacious protagonist.
Anne Forestier finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time when she is trapped in the middle of a bank robbery. Shot three times, she is lucky to survive-and morbidly unlucky to remember the face of her assailant.
Followed home from her hospital bed, Anne is in grave danger. But one thing stands in her favor-a dangerously vengeful partner, carrying the scars of devastating loss, who will break all the rules to protect the woman he loves: Commandant Camille Verhoeven.
Following the horror of Irène and the thrills of Alex, Camille is the heart-stopping final chapter. Drawn once again into a labyrinthine web with answers ever out of reach, Camille must draw on all his talent to face an enemy who threatens everything he holds dear.

Bravo! I'd give it 6 stars
By S. E. Mcneil
Camille is a great conclusion to the trilogy (Alex, and Irene). Le Maitre is my favorite crime novelist. My only regret its that English translations are not published soon enough!
The principal characters are well-developed, plots/subplots are intricate, and how could one find a more exciting locale than Paris!
Loved this book. Spent all of Mother's Day reading it.

By Kathy Clark
This is the third in the trilogy which started with Irene, then Alex and finally Camillle. While Irene and Alex were slightly stronger, I still felt that Camille is better than 95% of the books I read and I was completely absorbed. The writing by Pierre Lemaitre is top notch, and the plots are unline anything I have read before (except for references to other books in the plots!). I always can guess who done it, and what by about halfway through a book and I was surprised on all 3 of these. And not surprised in the bad way, where the conclusion makes no sense but instead in the way that it all fell together. This trilogy is the best thing I have read in years, and I exclusively read mystery and police procedural and usually read foreign. I consider myself discerning about authors and rather critical - and I simply can't recommend these books enough. You have to be willing to deal with quite a bit of darkness, but there is a great payoff on all 3. Buy these now!

I picked a bad time to read this
By MisterPlow
The first chapter is incredibly suspenseful. Even though it's about a crime against a woman (which is certainly overplayed in fiction and more importantly real life) and will turn your stomach with its descriptors, it's done very, very well. I only wish the rest of the book had been so well written because I had high expectations after that.
Overall I think I picked a rotten time to read this book. Police misconduct (frequent reports of crimes against weaponless black men and the AP's exhaustive look at sex crimes committed by cops) are both "fresh" right now. This book doesn't cast the main character, a police detective, in a good light at all. In fact, he says frequently that he's committing every possible bad act in the book. His girlfriend doesn't understand why he's doing it and frankly neither did I. It seemed like he could have said from the beginning that the crime committed was against a personal friend and he would have gotten at least some kind of sympathy from fellow cops who would help him solve it. But no.
I understand this is a series and I started with the last one. Going by the reviews it isn't the best one either but I have to say, it's difficult to like the main character. He frequently judges women by their looks and seems almost to be turned off by his girlfriend when she loses hers due to violence. He also seems to detest his female boss mostly because of her looks. He disrespects his boss at every turn. He doesn't care much at all when his actions indirectly lead to a young woman's murder. I guess she doesn't matter because she had a drug problem. He doesn't stop his team member from making "whores" (author's word) strip in order to humiliate them into giving up information (I mean, wow, it was hard to keep reading after that), but he does finally get upset when someone tells him he himself is racially profiling suspects. Okay, so it's a gritty detective book; I get that. I'm usually fine with that. But it leaves us with nobody to root for when both the detective and the main bad guy are awful people.
