About the Author
Tracy Marks, M.A., is a licensed mental health counselor, astrologer, writer, instructor, and nature photographer. Her transformational astrology books, including Astrology of Self-Discovery and The Art of Chart Interpretation, have been translated into nine languages and have sold over 150,000 copies. A psychotherapist since 1985, she is currently maintaining both counseling and astrology practices in Arlington, Massachusetts, as well as teaching in continuing education programs.

Must-Have Resource for Students to Intermediate-Level Practitioners

While very many books provide a fundamental astrological education (whether Vedic or Western) in Signs, Houses, Planets, and even their meaning in combination, what is missing from virtually all of those books is any comprehensive or systematic suggested approach to guide the student or beginning-to-intermediate-level practitioner in preparing an excellent natal reading (which is an essential baseline for any further ventures into the analysis of transits and progressions). Moreover, other books that do propose some sort of chart delineation framework either do so all too briefly to be of any value, fall flat with too-limited approaches, or fail to simultaneously cover very much ground while also communicating clearly what is really important (and why). This book will not really guide one through the meanings of planets, Signs, and houses or their combined meanings — as mentioned, many other books are available for that purpose. What this book does do, though, and does far better than any other book I have ever seen (my library of astrological books exceeds 75 in number in my apartment plus an unknown additional number in storage . . . ) is provide a brilliantly clear and comprehensive systematic approach to natal chart interpretation that is missing from so many other books. While I disagree with the author on some points of astrological theory, I found that to be of no consequence, for one can easily adapt what she has presented, and most importantly, what she has accomplished with this text is a most tremendous, landmark, boon to the field of astrology. Clear, concise, well-written, excellent in so many ways; simply put, as some others also have written: this book is a MUST-HAVE. Namaste.

Chart Interpretation.

The book overall is written well. It explains the general ideas of interpreting the natal chart. What is really nice is the Tracy Marks gives you her method of Analyzing the Natal Chart. She uses the Koch house method throughout the book because it has worked the best for her for the past 20 years when interviewing others. She goes through the elements, modes, planetary pattern, aspect configurations, sun and moon sign relationship, ASC and MC, Retrograde, ect. The reason I gave the book 4 stars is because it is a starting line. It is what you need to know to go further into your studies. The book does not go into too much detail. That's why there are books for transits, retrograde, aspects, and so forth. I continue to use the book all the time learning the general steps in approaching a chart. I Keep around 5 books with me all the time, and this one is included. I don't use the Koch house method. I still learned from it though.
